Why Private

An Hour That Moves at Your Speed

A group class moves at the pace of whoever in the room is fastest. That is fine at thirty. At seventy it is the reason a lot of people try one class, feel behind for an hour, and never go back. It has nothing to do with capability and everything to do with the format.

A private session removes the comparison completely. There is no room to keep up with, no sequence that has to work for eight different bodies, and no exercise you have to sit out because it was not built for you. The hour is designed around one person, and it changes in real time depending on how that person is moving that day.

That matters more as the years go on, not less. The work that protects strength, balance and independence is specific, and specific work needs someone watching.

The Work

What We Actually Spend the Hour On

01

Balance and Stability

Standing on one leg, shifting weight with control, recovering from a small stumble. These are trainable skills, and the apparatus lets us build them with support rather than risk.

02

Strength You Use Daily

Getting out of a low chair, carrying a bag up from the car, reaching a high shelf. We train the patterns that show up in an ordinary day, not abstract exercises.

03

A Spine That Still Moves

Turning to look over your shoulder while reversing the car is a mid-back skill. Rotation and extension are among the first things to quietly disappear, and among the most trainable.

04

Hips and Knees

Whether you are protecting a joint, working around one that has been replaced, or simply want stairs to stop being an event. Load is chosen for the joint in front of us.

05

Posture and Breathing

Standing tall is a matter of where your ribs sit and how you breathe into them. It is also the single change friends notice first.

06

Confidence

The quiet one, and often the reason people came. Moving without negotiating with your body first changes what you are willing to plan.

The Instructor and the Equipment

Why the Apparatus Suits This Work

Every session is taught by Rachel Balali, who worked as a physiotherapist for more than ten years before training in the classical Pilates method. She has spent a long career watching people move, which is a different skill from counting repetitions.

The studio has the full classical apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, ladder and spine barrels, and mat. For an older body this is the point of the whole thing. On the Reformer the springs carry part of the load, so an exercise that is impossible lying on the floor is often comfortable and useful lying on a moving carriage. The Cadillac has bars and straps to hold onto, which means we can work standing and turning without the fear of losing balance. Nothing has to be skipped. It gets adapted instead.

Getting down to the floor and back up again is also optional. Plenty of clients here never do a mat exercise, and the session is no less effective for it.

One thing to be clear about: Swan Pilates teaches movement. It is not a medical clinic and does not diagnose or treat any condition. If you are managing a joint replacement, osteoporosis, a recent surgery or any medical issue, speak to your physician first. Rachel will work alongside their guidance, and she would rather have that conversation before the first session than after.

Swan Pilates is an independent studio and is not affiliated with the Sun City Summerlin Community Association.

Your First Visit

How the First Hour Goes

01

A Conversation

What you want to keep being able to do, what your doctor has said, and what has felt wrong lately. This part is not rushed.

02

A Look at How You Move

Standing, walking, sitting down and getting up. Simple things, watched closely, which is what tells Rachel where to begin.

03

Real Work

A full hour on the apparatus at a pace that suits you. You will work, and you will not be pushed past what the day allows.

04

An Honest Answer

What she thinks would help, how often, and whether this is the right fit at all. Then it is entirely your decision.

Common Questions

Questions We Get From Sun City

How far is the studio from Sun City Summerlin?

Swan Pilates is at 8683 W Sahara Ave Suite #240, a straightforward drive south from Sun City Summerlin. There is parking at the building and sessions run seven days a week, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

I have had a knee replaced. Can I still do this?

Many clients here are working with a replaced joint. Get your surgeon or physician to confirm you are cleared for supervised exercise, tell Rachel exactly what was done and when, and the session will be built around it. What we will not do is guess.

Do I have to get down on the floor?

No. Much of the work happens lying on the Reformer, seated, or standing at the Cadillac. If getting up from the floor is not something you want to do, it simply is not part of your session.

I have not exercised in years. Is it too late to start?

No, and people who have been away the longest often notice the change the fastest. The first session starts wherever you actually are, which is the advantage of having the room to yourself.

Is the first session really free?

Yes, with no conditions attached. A full private hour with Rachel, not a consultation and not a sales meeting. If it turns out not to be for you, that is a perfectly good outcome and it has cost you nothing.

Your first private session is free. Call 702-848-4767 and tell Rachel what you would like to keep being able to do.
